His practice encompasses patent prosecution and drafting in the US and foreign patent offices, representing inventors at companies as well as academic institutions. Makoto has extensive experience in a broad range of techniques, including calcium imaging, electrophysiology, genetic analysis, molecular biology, microscopy, microfluidics, in vivo assays and scientific programming. Makoto assists his clients navigate the intellectual property landscape using the breadth and depth of his scientific expertise.
Makoto received his B.A. in Biology, with Honors, from Amherst College, Massachusetts, and his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of California, San Francisco. After graduate school, He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. Makoto has research publications in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Neuron, Journal of Neuroscience and Journal of Physiology, and has authored review articles on neurophysiology.
